Tartaric acid, or, 2,3-dihydroxybutanedioic acid, is a carboxylic acid found in a variety of plants, such as grapes and tamarind, and is one of the major organic acids in wine. It is also one of the main organic acids in wine. It is used as an antioxidant in foods to give them a sour flavor.
